Easter at VOUS: How We Prepare for the Super Bowl of Sundays
Easter Sunday — or as many like to call it, “The Super Bowl for Christians” is one of the biggest weekends of the year at VOUS Church. It’s a moment to remember and celebrate the resurrection of Jesus, and whether someone is a weekly attendee or just tuning in once a year, we treat every seat like a soul and every moment like a chance to share the hope of the gospel.
Every year, we prepare with intentionality, strategy, and, of course, a whole lot of prayer.
Here’s a look at how we approach Easter Weekend at VOUS — from Good Friday to helicopter egg drops — and how your church might take notes for your own Easter game plan.
The Weekend at a Glance
Good Friday Services
We host Good Friday services at every location in the evening, creating space for our community to reflect on the cross and the sacrifice of Jesus. These are sacred, reverent moments and usually include a communion moment as part of the service. It’s a powerful opportunity to slow down, remember the body and blood of Jesus, and prepare our hearts for Resurrection Sunday.

The Easter Egg Drop
Yes, you read that right. Every year, we host one of our biggest I Love My City (ILMC) outreach events: a 60,000 Easter Egg Drop at a local park in Miami — eggs falling from the sky thanks to a literal helicopter. For younger children, we curate a traditional field egg hunt. But for kids 6 and up, it’s the main event: a sky-rain of colorful eggs that never fails to leave an impression.
What’s the purpose? While we know Easter isn’t about bunnies and eggs, we use the Egg Drop to meet people where they are — creating a fun, safe, and meaningful moment for families. Every egg is a touchpoint, every smile a seed. More than just a fun day for families, we leverage this event to invite guests to church the next day.
We even plant “golden eggs” with a special prize that can only be claimed on Easter Sunday — driving both curiosity and attendance.

Easter Sunday
To accommodate the influx, we add extra services throughout the morning and evening and even rent a tent at our VOUS SoMi location to prepare for overflow crowds. It’s all hands on deck, and every department works together to ensure that guests feel seen, loved, and part of the family from the parking lot to the altar call.
Planning & Strategy
Big weekends require big planning. Here's how we structure the Easter build-up:
1. Kickoff Meeting
We launch Easter prep with a kickoff meeting at the end of February. This includes key leaders from every department — I Love My City, Operations, Creative, Kids, Production, and more. This sets the tone and creates clarity around the vision.
2. Weekly Touchpoints
From that point forward, we hold weekly check-ins leading up to the big weekend. In each touchpoint, we review:
- Event goals (e.g. number of attendees, number of servant leaders needed)
- Cross-team updates
- Initiative status
- Final action steps
We treat the Egg Drop as a major community outreach initiative and Easter Sunday as the harvest moment. Both require different strategies but serve the same purpose: pointing people to Jesus.
Your church may have different resources, different venues, and different rhythms, but the heart behind Easter prep is the same: souls matter.
Whether you're gathering 100 or 10,000, the question is: Are you creating an atmosphere where someone can meet Jesus for the first time?
We pray this gives you inspiration and insight to begin preparing for your own Easter weekend. It’s not just an event — it’s an opportunity for eternal impact.
