No matter the size of your congregation or the location of your ministry, one thing is true for all of us: the work of building the Church is both a privilege and a responsibility. At VOUS, we believe in celebrating the journey—honoring what God has done and casting vision for what’s ahead. That’s why we host Heart & Soul, a night dedicated to refreshing our teams, reigniting passion, and reminding us why we serve.
At every Heart & Soul, Pastor Rich delivers a stakeholder message to encourage our church in the direction of our vision. In August 2024, Pastor Rich delivered a message called "I Love Working at VOUS," emphasizing the power of prayer and action in building the Church. We’ll be premiering this message at 12:30PM on our Friends + Family YouTube Channel, so stay tuned! Here are some key takeaways from his message:
Prayer + Work = Revival
In ministry, work can sometimes feel overwhelming. But Jesus reminds us in Matthew 9:37: "The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few." Revival doesn’t happen by accident—it’s the result of prayer and action.
Too often, churches either lean heavily on prayer without stepping out in faith, or they work tirelessly without seeking God’s guidance. Both are needed. Prayer without action is incomplete, and action without prayer is ineffective.
Every year, we set aside intentional seasons of prayer, knowing that spiritual transformation begins there. But we also believe that prayer must be followed by taking action—getting involved, serving our communities, and being the hands and feet of Jesus.
The Welsh revivalist Rees Howells said that breakthrough requires three things:
- Identification – Seeing the needs around us.
- Agony – Feeling the weight of brokenness.
- Authority – Stepping into our God-given calling to bring change.
The Need for Revival
Miami is in desperate need of hope. Crime rates are high, the cost of living is rising, and many people are spiritually lost. Yet, amidst these challenges, God has positioned VOUS Church as a beacon of light. Every Sunday, thousands gather hungry for God—but behind every number is a name, a story, and a soul in need of Jesus.
There’s a deep connection between prayer and work, between seeking God’s presence and stepping into action. We aren’t meant to just pray for revival—we’re meant to labor for it. A thriving church, a transformed community, and a changed world don’t happen by accident. They require willing hearts, open hands, and a faith that moves beyond words into action.
A Call to Action
The church is a hospital for the broken, a lighthouse for the lost, and a home for those seeking belonging. Jesus didn’t say, "The harvest is plentiful, so think about it." He said, "Pray for workers!" That’s why this message isn’t titled "I Love Singing at VOUS" or "I Love Hanging at VOUS"—it’s "I Love Working at VOUS." We are called to action. If you’re not helping, you’re not helping. Everyone wants to be part of a life-changing church, but few want to do the work.
The Power of Work in Revival
Jesus modeled the balance of prayer and work perfectly. He didn’t just pray; he healed, taught, and made disciples. Similarly, we are called not just to pray for revival but to actively labor for it. At VOUS, we believe in consistent, hard work because it is through service that we experience true joy and fulfillment. Hard work brings purpose, and it’s the work that transforms lives.
Here’s a Few Reasons Why “We” Love Working at VOUS
1. The Vision Is Compelling
The mission of VOUS is clear: to bring people far from God close to Him. We are building something eternal, and every role matters. From the new HQ and expanded church locations to the continued development of VOUS College, every step is part of God’s plan.
2. The People Are Thriving
People are our greatest resource. At VOUS, we don’t use people to build ministry—we use ministry to build people. We cultivate a culture of love, generosity, fun, encouragement, and inclusion. A healthy environment leads to growth, and we are committed to creating that space.
3. The Culture Is Contagious
Our culture is one of action. We take responsibility, embrace challenges, and serve with humility. If you’re too big to serve, you’re too small to lead. At VOUS, we make hard work look fun because we know that the work we do has an eternal impact.
4. The Benefits Are Eternal
Working for VOUS, whether you’re on staff or a volunteer, is more than a job—it’s an eternal investment. While people take pride in working for major corporations, there is no greater place to invest our time and energy than in God’s kingdom. The benefits? Forgiveness of our past, hope for our future, and purpose in our present.
5. The Purpose Is Fulfilled
There is no greater joy than seeing people come home to Jesus. This is what we are working for. This is what we are praying for. And this is why we love working at VOUS.
Never Stop Building the Church
If you want to inspire your teams, strengthen your leadership culture, and build momentum, consider hosting a night like Heart & Soul at your church. When you invest in your people, they will invest in the mission.
The equation is simple: Prayer + Work = Revival.
Never retire from the mission. Never stop building the Church. The harvest is plentiful—let’s be the workers Jesus prayed for.
